In this episode of The Member Stories Series, we sit down with Howard Maron, a man whose story is defined by perseverance, family, service, and an extraordinary career in the automotive industry.
Born in Philadelphia in 1955, Howard grew up facing challenges that helped shape his character. From losing his mother at a young age to experiencing antisemitism growing up Jewish in Philadelphia, his early life was not always easy. But through those experiences, Howard developed a strength and determination that would carry him throughout his life.
In 1977, Howard began his career with Toyota, entering a path that would span more than four decades. What started in the parts department grew into a remarkable professional journey. In 1995, his dedication and expertise earned him the title of “Best Toyota Parts Man in America,” after competing through Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and the national Toyota competition.
That achievement led to a 10-day trip to Japan, where Howard had the opportunity to experience Toyota’s culture and operations firsthand. Throughout his career, he helped develop strategies and protocols that supported the international growth of Toyota’s parts and service operations. His contributions were later recognized through an induction into the Toyota Hall of Fame for Parts and Service Champions.
But Howard’s story is about much more than professional accomplishments.
He is a husband who has shared more than 45 years of marriage with his wife, Hope; a father; a grandfather to Rory; and a man who values the relationships and experiences that make life meaningful. He also shares the story of recovering from a stroke later in life a difficult chapter that required him to relearn walking and many everyday functions.
Today, Howard reflects on his childhood, his family, his career, his love of Philadelphia and the Eagles, and the lessons he has learned along the way.
